What are we looking for?
The Pacheco Community Center aims at the development of the community from economic, productive and social, from the pursuit of sustainability.
Where do we start?
The community is located in northern Gran Buenos Aires that, by its nature, is considered a vulnerable area. Here there is a deep contrast proximity to gated communities and residential areas with high purchasing power. The precarious conditions of infrastructure, deficiency in public services, housing and streets, flooding due to the proximity of the river, are some of the factors that affect families in the neighborhood. It is also a hit by unemployment and marginalization area.
Young people between 18 and 24 years of the area should go out to work to support their families. The Pacheco Community Center works in community with them, with international volunteers and technicians and coordinators who organize activities.
The goal is for neighborhood youth to learn a trade, use tools and production spaces that are available.
The role of volunteers in this context is crucial. They come from around the world to exchange knowledge, experience and work with the community generating a spirit of horizontal solidarity, participation and friendship. Volunteers in Pacheco, feel part of the community.
Technicians and coordinators, professionals in different areas provide their theoretical and practical youth, knowledge collaborate in learning immersion and volunteers to enhance their help. They are essential for the orderly functioning of the various workshops and the organization of space.
The space is open to the entire community and offers various art workshops, reflection, cooking, yoga, workshops in the garden for children, youth, adults in the neighborhood and volunteers from around the world.
The development proposed the Pacheco Community Center, has to do with work for social transformation we seek: an economic, social and cultural environment that is based on cooperation ties friendship and acceptance.
